ORGANIC SOLAR CELLS

Scientists have derived design rules for light-absorbing dyes able to help make organic solar cells more efficient, while tailoring their absorption spectrum to the needs of the chosen application. It might be possible to produce transparent solar cells that only absorb light outside the range visible to humans — but then with the maximum efficiency in this range. With them, whole fronts of houses could be used as active surface. Reaching 20% solar cell efficiency is conceivable, industry’s target for cost-effective application of organic photovoltaics.
