TROUBLESOME TEMPERATURE RECORDS

Earth’s global average surface temperature in 2021 tied with 2018 as the sixth warmest on record with the past eight years the warmest since modern record keeping began in 1880. Continuing the long-term warming trend, global temperatures in 2021 were 1.5 degrees Fahrenheit (0.85 degrees Celsius) above the average for NASA’s baseline period. What might be more important is that temperatures on the Antarctic Peninsula have risen by almost 3C (5.4F) over the past 50 years.
