More than 11 million tons of textiles end up in landfills or incinerators yearly in the US alone. A new polyethylene yarn made from a form of plastic commonly used in milk bottles and grocery bags matches spandex’s stretch. Unlike spandex, it can be melted down and re-spun repeatedly.
