SUSTAINABLE FUEL

British Airways plans to operate transatlantic flights partially powered by sustainable fuels (SAF) as early as 2022. It will invest in a U.S. plant to be built in Georgia producing commercial-scale volumes of SAF made from ethanol derived from agricultural and other waste. The fuel would create 70% less carbon emissions than conventional jet fuel. And Dutch airline KLM has used sustainable synthetic kerosene on a commercial flight from Amsterdam to Madrid. Shell made 500 litres (just over 5% of the flight’s overall fuel burn) synthesised from CO2 and water using renewable energy sources.
