SOUTH POLE WARMING

The South Pole has warmed by about 1.8 degrees Celsius over the past 30 years at a rate of +0.6 degrees Celsius per decade — three times the global average. It appears that this was mainly driven by natural tropical climate variability and was likely intensified by increases in greenhouse gas. The last time Earth’s atmosphere had this much carbon dioxide in it, there were trees growing at the South Pole, sea levels were up to 20 metres (66 feet) higher, and global temperatures were 3-4°C above what they are today.
