PROBLEMATIC PUBLIC RELATIONS FIRMS

The fossil fuel industry spends millions on shaping its image to try to block climate action. Some PR firms have played a key role behind the scenes in obstructing helpful action over the past 30 years, engaging in campaigns on behalf of the industry to downplay the seriousness of climate change, while positioning industry-favored solutions as the preferred course of action. The most common tactic is “corporate image promotion,” or greenwashing, with explicit climate denial rarely used. PR firms are responsible for now commonplace phrases like “clean coal,” and “renewable natural gas”. These concepts have become normalized discourse and subsequently shaped the public debate about the issue. Clean Creatives has been pushing for the PR and advertising industries to break ties with fossil fuel companies. Hopefully it will succeed. Check them out below.
