A new plastic is made from cellulose and starch (i.e. corn, potatoes). It’s biodegradable and doesn’t add to fossil fuel consumption. Since it breaks down in seawater over time, it will lessen ocean plastic pollution. The materials are cheap and the manufacturing process simple, so it’s expected that the developed material will be put to use soon. Here’s hoping!
