METHANOL MOMENTUM

Scientists have demonstrated the selective conversion of carbon dioxide into methanol using a cascade reaction strategy. The two-part process is powered by sunlight, occurs at room temperature and at ambient pressure, and employs a recyclable organic reagent similar to a catalyst found in natural photosynthesis.  Methanol is a particularly attractive target because it is a liquid that can be easily transported and stored. And it serves as a key feedstock in the chemical industry for making more complex molecules.
