METHANE REMOVAL

A new relatively simple device removes between 50 and 100% of ambient methane, and is now being scaled up for real-world pig and cattle barns. It can strip over 90% of this gas from barn air using just chlorine and light. The device breaks methane down into carbon dioxide, monoxide, and hydrogen. The hydrogen byproduct can be recycled, while the carbon remnants can be diverted before they’re released. Researchers plan to take the contraption to a biogas plant and a wastewater treatment plant as well.
