As climate change accelerates, many electric grids will face extreme weather events far beyond the historical conditions those systems were designed for, putting them at risk of catastrophic failure. Fiercer heat waves, water shortages, floods, severe storms, and other calamities will all be problematic. Fires will no doubt add to grid problems. The recent winter storms blasting the nation may be a harbinger.
