GLORIOUS COFFEE GROUNDS

Put in landfills coffee grounds produce greenhouse gasses. Fortunately roasted used grounds can be turned into biochar using a low-energy process. Infused into concrete, the material’s strength can be increased by 30%, strength development improved, micro-cracking reduced, and sand needed to meet the construction industry’s growing demands lessened, while reducing production costs from this cheap, available waste. If the idea went global, it could make use of the 1 million tons of coffee grounds ditched in landfills every year.
