This vertical turbine generates energy by harnessing wind generated by passing vehicles as well as the natural winds, capturing the fast and continuous flow of traffic on the roads. Solar panels located on the top of the turbine provide extra electricity. By generating about 1 kW/h, ENLIL can cover the average daily electricity needs of two households. It has built-in sensors that note temperature, humidity, carbon footprint, and earthquake detection–an additional service. With its relatively small size, the device can be installed in places unsuitable for traditional turbines, such as next to paths and on the roofs of high-rise buildings.
