What is a compressor station? It’s a giant safety valve for big interstate gas pipelines that regulates the pressure level inside the pipe. To maintain a safe level of pressure, the valve opens at intervals and lets out … gas. Because the gas is under pressure, the gas release is very, very loud. People compare it to a jet engine.
