Radioactive elements are naturally present in many soils and rock formations, and in water flowing through them. Oil and gas extraction activities, including fracking, drilling, and production, can release these radioactive materials endangering workers, nearby communities, and the environment. The greatest risk is cancer. It shouldn’t be surprising that Children who live close to fracking sites in Pennsylvania have a higher risk for the most common form of childhood cancer. Why has so little attention been paid to this?
