The Northeastern US is a global warming hotspot; 2 degrees Celsius of summer warming has already occurred. Not only are Northeastern winters getting warmer, but significant and rapid summer warming is happening along the coast. The coast from Maine to Delaware is heating faster than most regions of North America which is linked to drastic alterations in ocean and atmospheric conditions over the North Atlantic. The northwestern Atlantic Ocean is also warming at a much faster rate than all the oceans as a whole. One consequence of the conveyor belt slowdown (previously posted) is more heating of the ocean off the Northeastern coast, which helps explain the spike in ocean temperatures in the Mid-Atlantic Bight (from Cape Cod, MA to Cape Hatteras, NC) and Gulf of Maine regions.
