Over the past 5,700 years, the frequency of tropical storms and hurricanes in the Caribbean has steadily increased. A significant rise in regional storm frequency is predicted as a result of climate change. Some 45 tropical storms and hurricanes could pass over this region in our century alone, far exceeding the natural variability of the past millennia.
