Russia supplies nearly 40% of the gas European countries use for heat and electricity. Watch this coming week for a E.U. proposal to swiftly renovate old, leaky buildings to reduce energy demand, simplify regulations to attract renewable energy investments, encourage more rooftop solar installations and produce more energy from biomass. And electric heat pumps spread swiftly in Europe for the first time in 2021. It’s tragic that it took Putin’s horrendous war to bring this about.
