Western drought
Lake Mead has plummeted to an unprecedented low, exposing the original 1971 water intake valve which can no longer draw water. Extreme and exceptional drought, the worst designations, have expanded across New Mexico, Arizona and Colorado–all part of the Colorado River basin. Exceptional drought now covers 68% of New Mexico.
