LAMENTABLE LA NINA

La Nina increases the number of hurricanes and allows stronger ones to form. Chances for the continental U.S. and Caribbean Islands to experience a hurricane increases substantially. Multiyear La Niña events have become more common over the last 100 years. Five out of six events since 1998 have lasted more than one year, including an unprecedented triple-year event. Long-lasting La Niñas could cause persistent climate extremes and devastating weather events, affecting community resilience, tourist industry and agriculture.
