Global warming linked to the world’s biggest oil and gas companies made all “major” 21st century heatwaves more intense and frequent. That’s becoming more pronounced as the planet warms. Emissions stemming from the operations and production of more than 100 “carbon majors”—i.e. ExxonMobil, BP, Saudi Aramco and Shell– account for 60% of all human-caused CO2 emissions over 1850-2023. This could be used to support future climate lawsuits and aid diplomatic negotiation.
