Scientists have been stunned to find that the rates of global heating in the North Barents Sea are up to seven times faster than the global average, the fastest warming place known on Earth, and an early warning of what could happen across the rest of the Arctic. We already knew that heating is increasing across the Arctic three times faster than the global average, but the new research shows the situation is even more extreme in places. It could signal faster and more abrupt climate breakdown.
