America’s grid is in trouble. Prices are up, reliability down. Since 2000, the number of major outages has risen from under two dozen to more than 180 per year. Residential electricity prices, having risen 21% since 2008, are predicted to keep climbing. Fortunately, during an outage, a properly linked EV can send electricity back to a house or business, keeping the power on for several days and even provide power to the network when demand is high. You will need a special charger that allows energy to flow both ways. Numerous companies like Tesla are coming up with EVs or trucks that can power homes.
