Using electric vehicles batteries to power households could save owners thousands in bills while cutting emissions from the power grid. This way homes can buy electricity for all household uses when it’s cheap and clean—i.e. the afternoon, when there’s a lot of solar power—and store it in the car’s battery for later use. It could save EV owners 40% to 90% of their charging costs over their vehicle’s lifetime–between $2,400 and $5,600 in savings.
