Global insurance giants continue to be problematic. Sixteen insurance companies underwrite the top 25 U.S. coal producing mines, which account for over 60% of our coal production. Among the leaders are American International Group, Inc (AIG), Liberty Mutual, Lloyd’s of London, Swiss Re, and Zurich, insuring at least 41% of U.S. coal output, sometimes violating internal policies aimed at slowing climate change. Simultaneously insurers are refusing to cover homeowners vulnerable to climate disasters.
