When plants decompose or are burnt, they release the carbon dioxide they had absorbed. To prevent this, we could bury the waste biomass under conditions that prevent or slow decomposition, thereby trapping the carbon underground for centuries. Biomass burial could be a simpler and cheaper way to sequester carbon than other ways.
