The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC)has given Enbridge permission to bring the Weymouth compressor station online October 1. This, despite a recent, massive accident where a faulty gasket led to 265,000 standard cubic feet of fracked gas leaking methane and other toxins at ground level into the surrounding community. A simple spark could have caused an explosion. The compressor’s automatic emergency system was not functional.
Call Samantha Phillips at MEMA (the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency) 508-820-2010 and demand a safety and evacuation plan. Catastrophic accidents have happened at similar compressors. This one is in a densely populated community with homes and schools not far away.
