The Trump administration has proposed opening up most of Alaska’s Western Arctic reserve for fossil fuel drilling. The plan would make possible leasing of roughly 18.6 million acres, representing 82% of the reserve. That would be disastrous for the climate, wildlife and Indigenous communities. Following the news of record temperatures in the Arctic, it’s hard to believe that we could permit such insanity.
