WONDERFUL NEW WHEAT

Self-fertilizing crops are now a step closer to reality. A new type of wheat can capture more nitrogen from the air and transform it into nutrients. The plants grow larger and stronger under low-nitrogen conditions than conventional wheat. This could mean less production of fertilizer that uses natural gas and releases huge amounts of nitrous oxide–nearly 300 times more potent than CO2.
