Almost half of the world’s beaches will disappear by the end of the century due to a combination of rising sea levels caused by climate change and urbanization in coastal areas. This will profoundly affect the biodiversity living on the sand, harm activities such as fishing and tourism and make coastal cities more susceptible to the advance of the sea.
