Investment in coal plants may now be a waste of money as renewables is now cheaper. And by 2030, at the latest, it will be cheaper to build new wind or solar capacity than continue using coal. To avoid the worst impacts of the climate crisis, coal electricity needs to fall by 80% from 2010 to 2030.
