SOLAR SOLUTION

A new method visualizes interfaces where the sunlight’s energy is converted to electrical charges and provides a set of design rules that can improve the efficiency of organic solar cells. Voltage loss is driven by the energy differential between constituent donor and acceptor materials and by energetic disorder along interfaces. It’s possible to “fix” the energy differential and tune the disorder at interfaces by changing how the donor and acceptor are blended during fabrication in a way that reduces the voltage loss as much as possible.
