An entirely new wood type could be highly efficient at carbon storage by planting a particular fast-growing tree more commonly seen in ornamental gardens in plantation forests as well. Tulip Trees, which are related to magnolias and can grow well over 100 feet tall, have a unique type of wood that does not fit into either category of hardwood or softwood. The two Tulip Tree species are exceptionally efficient at locking in carbon. Some east Asian countries are already using these trees in plantations to efficiently lock in carbon.
