Less than a month after COP28 adjourned with a deal favoring the fossil fuel industry, Azerbaijan, the host nation of the next UN climate summit, has appointed an official with more than 20 years working for a state-owned oil and gas company to preside over the next round of global talks later this year. And Azerbaijan is set to raise gas production by a third during the next 10 years. Why do we even bother with this conference?
