The Group of 7 leaders last week ended their summit without a firm and clear commitment on how they’re going to deliver on the annual $100 billion climate finance pledge made over a decade ago. There were commitments to get to the target but a lack of detail about precisely how much money wealthier nations would be willing to give. So far it has been only $20 billion. The shift from fossil fuels will be impossible for developing countries, without sizable financial and technological help. And in fact it will require more than $100 billion to deal with the climate crisis.
